Ala. highway crash kills 1 bicyclist, injures another

ANDERSON, Ala. (AP) — State troopers say one bicyclist was killed and a second cyclist seriously injured when they were struck by a vehicle on an Alabama highway.

Authorities say the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. Monday on Alabama 207, north of Anderson in Lauderdale County.

The TimesDaily reports (http://bit.ly/1tWJBf1) that 40-year-old James Keith Green of Rogersville died at Athens-Limestone Hospital a short time after the accident.

Authorities say 39-year-old Mannon Heath Rogers of Sheffield was also was injured. He was taken by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital. Pam Sparks, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said Rogers was in critical condition.

A female cyclist was riding with Green and Rogers but was not injured.

Authorities said the two cyclists were struck by a 2008 Suzuki Reno.
