Labor Day activities for kids

GULF COAST (WALA) – Happy Labor Day!  To many, this is the official end of summer with school underway and summer vacations pretty much over. We have some ideas of things you can do with your little ones to celebrate the holiday.

One thing you might want to do is take a minute and focus on what the holiday is actually about.  The website, Apples of the Teacher, explains all of that and has some really fun things to do in the process!

You and your children can also focus on the labor force.  There are several ideas on Spoonful.com.  You can build a city, and talk about what it takes to make a city run.  How about giving kids an idea of what it’s actually like to do what some of the people working today do.  Spoonful.com has a firefighter obstacle course that you can set up inside or out!

If you’re looking to get outside this Labor Day, you can check out Mobile’s 69th Annual Labor Day Parade.  It starts at 10am in downtown Mobile, rain or shine.  It will last about 45 minutes.  The parade has become known as the “Toilet Paper Parade,” because the marchers throw paper products in addition to the traditional candy and beads.
