WETUMPKA, Alabama – The Collar family lost their 18-year-old son Gil Collar in October 2012 after an altercation with a USA campus police officer, and now they have lost their family home, according to WSFA.

Emerald Mountain volunteer firefighters reportedly worked for more than four hours to extinguish the blaze Saturday night, to no avail.

Bonnie Collar suffered burns in the incident and has received treatment.

The house, as well as the family’s two vehicles, have been declared a total loss.

Bonnie Collar last spoke with AL.com in July, when she said that she credited her strength to God. “I realize that I have none, except through Him,” she said.

The family is continuing a legal battle involving their son’s death.

A GoFundMe account has been set up by family friends to help the Collars.
