Flash MOB for cyclists, pedestrians set for today

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – In Downtown Mobile Sunday afternoon, a “Flash MOB” to raise awareness for bike lanes and safer pedestrian walkways will begin at 3:00 p.m..

Jeff DeQuattro, of the Delta Bike Project, said it starts at 505 Saint Louis Street.

“On Sunday afternoon, families and friends in the Mobile community will come together to show their support for inclusion of “smart city infrastructure” in the downtown, midtown area and encourage the transformation of Mobile into a more walkable, bikeable and liveable city,” said Dequattro.  “Smart city infrastructure minimizes environmental impacts and creates streets that are safe for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or mode of transportation that includes additions like bike lanes, safe pedestrian crossings, wider sidewalks, better nighttime illumination, road diets, and more green tree-filled areas.”

The Delta Bike Project organizers said St. Louis Street in Mobile was chosen because the city recently repaved the street and included an experimental bike lane in one section.
