September is Hunger Action Month

Bay Area Food Bank serves a 24-county area spanning south Alabama, south Mississippi, and the panhandle of Florida. In 2013, the food bank distributed over 17 million pounds of food to more than 400 church pantries, soup kitchens and other nonprofit organizations throughout its service area. The food bank also operates multiple nutrition programs, including Summer Food Service, Afterschool Snack, Backpack, Disaster Relief, Community Garden, Mobile Pantry, Cooking Matters, and SNAP Outreach. Bay Area Food Bank is a United Way agency and a member of Feeding America.

Hunger Action Month kicks off September 1st. The food bank is asking for donations Thursday, August 28th to help kick it all off. Hunger Action Month is a nationwide campaign to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger. Organized by Feeding America®, the campaign brings greater attention to the issue of hunger in America and promotes ways for individuals everywhere to get involved with the movement to solve it. For every $1 donated, Bay Area Food Bank can provide 5 meals to those in need.
