CITRONELLE, Ala. (WALA) – Citronelle Police told FOX10 an alleged rapist turned himself in Monday night, August 25, after hearing about an investigation he is allegedly involved in on the local news media.
Police said 46-year-old Sylvester Safford is accused of raping one woman at gunpoint, and sodomizing another woman at gunpoint. When Safford turned himself in to police Monday night, police said Saffford did not confess to the crimes, and said he did not want to speak to authorities without a lawyer present.
Safford is charged with rape in the first degree and sodomy in the first degree after Citronelle Police said two women filed complaints against him on separate occasions. Police said these victims did not know each other, but both victims claimed they were held at gunpoint by Safford.
Police told FOX10 News more charges could be coming in this investigation.
“We’re continuing to investigate. We could potentially have other victims,” said Citronelle Police Chief Shane Stringer, “and we are continuing to attempt to locate and interview those victims, and other charges could be forthcoming.”
FOX10 News will continue to follow this investigation, and let you know as more updates become available.
