Dauphin Island Sea Lab Estuarium temporarily closed

DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (WALA) – According to its website and Twitter messages, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Estuarium is closed this weekend because of a mechanical failure.

The Estuarium is a popular draw for tourists and Gulf Coast residents because it highlights the unique habitats of the Gulf Coast.

On its website this morning Sea Lab officials issued this statement:  “Due to a mechanical failure, the Estuarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab will be closed from Saturday, August 23 to Monday, August 25.   We will re-open on Tuesday, August 26 at 9 a.m”.

The cause and type of mechanical failure was not released by Sea Lab officials.

The Estuarium on Dauphin Island highlights and educates people on the coastal habitats of the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, Mobile Bay, the Barrier Islands and the northern Gulf of Mexico.
