GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) – High school football season has officially started in South Alabama and fans are pumped up for some football action.
On Thursday, August 21, 2014 the Gulf Shores Dolphins and Foley Lions played in Gulf Shores. Foley finished on top 34-6. This was the first time the two schools that are just a few miles apart actually played each other in a season game.
Proud parents, family and friends lined the bleachers to cheer on their team.
Stephanie and Larry Jones cheered for the Lions. Jones said she was a little “nervous, excited, anxious, and emotional.” This was the first time their boy played in a Varsity season game.
“Seeing what these kids achieve themselves,” said Jones, ” It’s great.”
On the other side of the field, Susan and Greg Hallum were feeling some of the same emotions. Their daughter was on the sidelines cheering.
“We’re excited we’re nervous. Our daughter’s a cheerleader, so go Dolphins!”
No matter which team fans were rooting for, feelings were the same throughout the metal bleachers. Shout Alabama is ready for some football.
“South Alabama is all about football,” said Jones. “We love some football.
Foley won the game 34 – 6.
