DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) – The City of Daphne voted in favor of a new ordinance on August 18, 2014 that will ban e-cigarette vaping in city buildings and city vehicles. The ordinance does not extend to city parks, or privately owned buildings.
The city has been looking to put the ordinance in place after receiving complaints from community members. Three months of discussion led to the final decision.
“Anytime you have a lot of feedback from the general population you wanna make sure you’re making the the right decisions,” said Mayor Dane Haygood, “and we wanted to make sure we had a standard and be able to have the city of Daphne enforce rules and we didn’t have any rules regarding that activity.”
Though the ordinance does not currently extend to city parks, Haygood says it’s not out of the question in the future.
“We still have a few questions out there,” he said. “We still have concerns about parks and that sort of thing but we chose not to address those now well give it some time and observe and see if any of those practices are problematic.”
