MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – FOX10 News was there when children at the Kiwanis Boys and Girls Club of South Alabama got to draw what they want on a new playground set to be built for the kids next month.
The playground is made possible by the KaBOOM organization who teamed up with Humana Inc. to fund the project.
Those with the organizations say many children in areas surrounding the Kiwanis Boys & Girls Club do not have safe and accessible play spaces that are readily available in their communities. They say a new playground and multi-generational exercise stations will effectively address these needs, providing the youth with an age-appropriate area to play, as well as opportunities for the seniors to interact further with each other and the community.
Those with KaBOOM want the community will rally together to design senior-focused and adult elements, including fitness stations and walking paths, to promote good posture, balance and flexibility – as well as more traditional, kid-friendly equipment to create a truly multi-generational space. The project will create a gathering area to inspire family picnics and get-togethers for years to come.
The actual build day is set to take place on Saturday, September 27th. The Boys and Girls Club is looking for volunteers for that day to help build, they say around 200 people will be needed. To volunteer, call (251) 478-7811.
