Woman saves handicapped man from burning building

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A woman who was staying at home on Jessie Street saved her handicapped roommate when she noticed the house was on fire.

“I (saw) he was asleep, I pulled him up out of the bed, because he can’t walk, and got him out of the window, because the door was caving in,” said the woman, who only wanted to be referred to as Toiya.

Police tell FOX10 the man ended up with severe burns to his left leg, and was taken to USA Medical Center for his injuries.Witnesses said that man’s name is Donald Bradley, 56, of Mobile. The landlord to the home tells FOX10 Bradley had been living there for some time.

Mobile Fire-Rescue is still investigating the cause of the fire at this time.

CORRECTION: Mobile Police had originally reported the fire to be an arson. However, Mobile Fire-Rescue said they will not confirm that as a cause at this time. FOX10 News will report the latest details as they are released.
