PHOENIX (AP) — A Peoria teenager accused of plotting with his mother and others to kill his father has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 17-year-old Steven Gibson Jr. also was sentenced Tuesday to three years of probation. He was charged as an adult in the case.
In a plea deal last month, Gibson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and hindering prosecution.
He was arrested after 39-year-old Steven Gibson Sr. was found dead in the family’s home in March 2013.
Peoria police said the victim had apparently been beaten with a baseball bat, stabbed multiple times and his throat was slit.
