Helicopter lifeguard training at Gulf State Park

GULF SHORES/ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WALA) – If you see helicopters, rescue swimmers and other emergency personnel near the old State Park Lodge in Gulf State Park, don’t be alarmed.

Gulf State Park is teaming up with Orange Beach and Gulf Shores lifeguards to take advantage of a training opportunity with Alabama State Troopers.

The lifeguards will be dropped Tuesday, August 12, beginning at 2 p.m., from a helicopter to understand what it’s like in case they ever have to do a rescue that way.

Gulf State Park says the exercise should have minimal impact on para-sailing and others enjoying the beach.
