Local church raises money to give free gas

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Citgo gas station on Azalea Road was packed Saturday morning, August 9 and it’s all thanks to the Courts of Praise Christian Center.

Inspired by a similar event in Cleveland Ohio, members of the congregation raised over $2,000 to give away free gas.

Pastor Joseph Lett said the idea is to give back to the community and gas, he says, is something that is always needed.

“We started giving away free backpacks, cleaning up the area. This year we said, lets go big, well give away gas, so this is where we are,” said Lett.

The first 130 cars each got $15 of free gas.

As for those who missed out, they said they were thankful someone was out doing something nice for the community.
