Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators say the body of Todd W. Wooley of the Pensacola area, was found washed ashore near Fort Pickens late Friday night.
But, investigators also say Wooley’s 26-foot vessel, was found beached 110 miles east of Panama City Beach, Florida.
Lieutenant Doug Berryman, of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, told FOX10News the 62 year-old man was reported missing by his family around 10:40 p.m. Friday.
Investigators say Wooley was trolling for king mackerel near Pensacola Pass. Officials say Wooley was not wearing a life jacket when his body was located.
Berryman said Wooley’s boat, a 26-foot Omega Chaparal, was found beached five miles west of Mexico Beach, which is just east of Panama City.
Investigators say the motor was still running and two fishing poles were still in the water when the boat was discovered.
The investigation into the cause of death and how the boat was located so far away is continuing.
