MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The resurfacing portion of an extensive Alabama Department of Transportation project on I-10 from the west end of the Wallace Tunnel to east of Halls Mill Creek is scheduled to begin Sunday, August 10.
Lane closures for this work will be ongoing Sunday –Thursday from 7 pm-6 am. Interstate lane closures will be announced on message boards around the area and ALDOT will also post regular project updates to the Mobile Area Twitter Account.
Resurfacing is scheduled to begin at the Wallace Tunnel and progress westwards towards Halls Mill Creek.
The Department of Public Safety will be providing enforcement patrols through the work zone. Motorists are advised to obey all reduced speed limits and be aware of workers in the construction zone.
The 8.7-mile project began in late April with the removal of a non-functioning pedestrian bridge over I-10 between Texas and Canal Street. Crews also raised, resurfaced, and made additional safety improvements to the Michigan Avenue bridge over I-10.
ALDOT awarded the contract to Hosea O. Weaver and Sons of Mobile after certifying its $14,681,567.59 bid was the lowest the met project requirements.
The project is expected to be completed in July 2015.
