It took much of the night, but the southbound lanes of the bridge over the Mobile-Tensaw Delta are back open Wednesday morning. It was closed after a white Ford Explorer lipped over a guardrail, with four people inside. They managed to crawl out of the vehicle and onto the top, where they were rescued by boat.

Authorities said one victim was taken by ambulance to Creola, then Life-Flighted to USA Medical Center. One person who was rescued from the water was also Life-Flighted from Cliff’s Landing.

Officials said a woman was killed in the accident. Her name, and the names of those injured, have not been released.

Authorities were able to pull the Explorer out of the water around 11:30 p.m. They said it was the only vehicle involved in the accident.

The investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing.
