USA Police: Former student, 23, vandalized campus

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – University of South Alabama Police arrested a man they say vandalized four buildings on USA’s campus.

Police arrested 23-year-old Benjamin Whitehead. Jail records show Whitehead was arrested in 2013 for criminal mischief. Now he’s charged with four counts of criminal mischief, which is a felony.

According to police, Whitehead is a former student at USA and was last on campus as a student in 2013.

Police say Whitehead walked into the FBI building confessing to vandalizing USA’s campus Tuesday morning.

Officials say he smashed windows and doors causing an estimated $15,000 in damage, and the incident happened early in the morning around 6 a.m.

FOX10 spoke with police Chief Zeke Aull who says there’s Usually between 4-6 officers patrolling the area and he believes the damage was done in about 30 min.

The windows are being boarded up where there’s some damage, but as for the motive-all police are saying is it’s unclear.

Officials say students are on schedule preparing for classes which begin August 18.
