MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - It’s a well documented problem, litter in Mobile’s streets and waterways. But two organizations want you to not only pick up your own trash – but everyone else’s too, with a bag called the Litter Getter.
The Mobile Baykeeper and Alabama Coastal Heritage Trust presented the bag to the city council Tuesday, August 5. The bags are free and are available at Mobile Baykeeper’s office at 450 Government Street.
“We all decided that we have to do something about it and getting people involved individually is the best way to make a change,” said Casi Calloway with Mobile Baykeeper.
FOX10 News asked a few people in Bienville Square if they would pick up trash while they were reading their newspaper.
“Yes because I spent 27 years in the Marine Corps. You don’t leave anything laying on the ground,” said Gary Brown.
Julie Walton agreed.
“Probably. Unless it was particular scary trash. But yeah, I think it’s something we can all get involved in,” said Walton.
If the idea seems a bit gross, Mobile Baykeeper wants you to think of it this way.
“I don’t want to either! but I also don’t swim in a river full of trash,” said Calloway.
