1 dead, 4 rescued from water in General WK Wilson Jr. Bridge accident

(WALA) – Alabama State Troopers confirm a car traveling I-65 Southbound on the General K Wilson Jr. Bridge flipped over the bridge, shutting down Southbound travel for about three hours.

Tow trucks pulled a white Ford Explorer from beneath the bridge around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, August 5. The accident happened North of Lizard Creek near mile marker 26.

Sources tell FOX10 News one person died in the accident and four others were rescued from the water.


At least one person was taken to USA Medical Center via helicopter. No word on that persons condition or what caused the accident.

The U.S. Coast Guard was on the scene along with the Creola Police Department, the Satsuma Police Department, Alabama Marine Police, Alabama State Troopers and several other agencies.
