Bond set for former Orange Beach officer in sex abuse case

COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – Former Orange Beach Police officer Timothy Gavin received a $50,000 bond on one charge of sex abuse of a child less than the age of 12.

Baldwin County District Judge Scott Taylor ruled that $10,000 of that would have to be secured through a licensed Alabama bonding company with the additional $40,000 to be approved by the Sheriff.

The Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office said they were notified of the alleged offense by the victim’s family early last week. The Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit then launched an investigation. Gavin was arrested Friday, August 1 after he resigned from his position with Orange Beach PD.

Little new information came out during the bond hearing, but Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney Theresa Heinz said the victim is a female with family ties to Gavin. The alleged abuse happened three to four years ago. Heinz said it’s not unusual for this much time to pass before allegations are made in this type of case.
