MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – People came out to the FOX10 studios Friday, August 1 for a back to school blood drive.
FOX10 teamed up with LifeSouth Blood Center to make it happen.
Participants got a pint of ice cream for donating.
Angela Williams, the blood center’s district community development coordinator, said they need about 1,000 donors a week to keep up supply.
“The summer months are a crucial time for us. Twenty-five percent of the blood we collect actually comes from students since they’re not in school, and people on vacation. So summer months are difficult for us as far as blood collections are concerned. We really need the community to come out and support us,” she said.
LifeSouth supplies blood to every hospital in Mobile County, and to two hospitals in Baldwin County.
