BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – One person was killed and 12 others were hurt when a Chevy S10 Blazer collided with a Baldwin County Rural Area Transportation System (BRATS) passenger van on the causeway in the eastbound lane. Officials said the person driving the SUV was killed in the accident. Eleven on the bus and the driver were injured.
“They vary. I saw one who had a leg injury and one who had difficulty breathing. None that I saw to be life threatening,” the Spanish Fort Police Chief said.
Officials on the bus were heading from Mobile to the Eastern Shore after work when the crash happened around 5:45 p.m.
“The SUV is barely recognizable and I’m standing at a distance but what I can see of the SUV, it doesn’t look like an SUV at all and the front of the brats bus, there’s no cab there’s nothing left it’s just a box,” one woman said who pulled up after the accident.
Both vehicles were towed away. Investigators still aren’t sure what caused the collision.
