MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Mobile Police are investigating a shooting that claimed the life of one man and put a woman in the hospital.
Police said a 27-year-old woman and 44-year-old Ronnie Minefield were inside the woman’s apartment early Sunday morning, July 27, around 2 a.m., when the woman’s estranged husband, 33-year-old Alvin Tillman, allegedly broke into the apartment, shooting both of them.
Police told FOX10 News the woman is expected to be okay, but the man who was with her, Minefield, was tragically killed on scene.
Police said Tillman immediately fled the apartment complex, and police found him just a few hours later near the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Sage Avenue.
“He left the scene, and the victim, a 27-year-old female was shot, and officers discovered the 44-year-old male was deceased inside the apartment,” said Terence Perkins with Mobile Police.
Tyler Byrd is a resident living at the Rondo Apartments.
He told FOX10 it’s typically a quiet neighborhood, and he was shocked to find out a crime like this took place there.
“You wouldn’t wake up thinking that somebody got shot today, you know, around here,” said Byrd, “That wouldn’t be the first thought.”
He said the murder has him shaken up, and worried, that something like this happened so close to home.
“That’s scary to know that that was not too far away from me, and my kid’s sleeping in the other room,” said Byrd, “That’s scary stuff.”
No word on the relationship between the two victims shot, or any possible motives in the murder.
Police are continuing with the investigation. If you can help, call (251) 208-7211.
