South Alabama Jaguars on the airwaves

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The South Alabama Jaguars are on the prowl.

Entering the 6th year of the program, the Jags face a tough schedule – a complete Sun Belt schedule, plus two SEC schools: Mississippi State and South Carolina. Plus, Navy is coming to town. The Jags ended the 2013 campaign 6-6 and are now looking to win the Sun Belt and reach a bowl game.

To go along with it all, a new way of keeping you informed about the season on the air. Jaguar Sports Properties has been formed at South. The new in-house multimedia operation takes off this fall.

“It’s going to be multi-platform. That’s the great thing. The radio network is going to be larger. A much bigger footprint. Our team is strong. It’s going to be exciting. It’s going to be a very great, quality product on air for the radio network. Pat Greenwood, color analyst. I’ll be doing play-by-play in the booth. Michael Brannon, on the sideline. We’ve got JT Crabtree, a recent graduate. He’s a product of South Alabama. He’ll be on the controls and hosting halftime as well. Of course, we’ve partnered with Clear Channel. We really appreciate those guys over at Lite Mix 99.9. We’ve got a great team going into the fall. The businesses, the folks that are really excited about it – they’ve really embraced it. They’re excited about it. They’re buying in. That’s helping tremendously to build excitement but also, this is a revenue model to raise funds for South Alabama Jaguar athletics. It’s a win-win for a lot of folks and it seems like a lot of folks are really excited,” said Director of Broadcast, JD Byars.

“Jaguar Sports Properties and its creation really parallels the emergence of football where we’re growing. We’ve always been a regional school. We are growing beyond a regional school to a national institution and that’s reflected by all our sports programs but football has presented that opportunity for us. And Jaguar Sports Properties will work at expanding that reach along with the programs. Any type of exposure, whatever shape or form that’s in – electronic media, print, social media, it solidifies an impression on potential recruits and fans whether they’re in Mobile, Alabama, Montgomery, Alabama, Dallas, Texas or Los Angeles. I think we’ve made great strides in that direction and it’s something we’re going to be very diligent in continuing to expand,” said Director of Athletics, Dr. Joel Erdmann.

The Jags open the season away at Kent State in Kent, Ohio on September 6.
