Are you comfortable having your location and web browsing tracked for marketing purposes? If so, Verizon Wireless has a deal for you. The wireless giant is launching a nationwide loyalty program called, Verizon Smart Rewards. It offers a wide rewards in exchange for points customers earn for their everyday activities and interactions with Verizon Wireless.
It will be available beginning July 24 for all customers on postpaid accounts, and customers who sign up for Smart Rewards will find at least 10,000 points waiting for them when they register. Activities, including signing in to the My Verizon online account management tool, paying your monthly bill, and other transactions like using the Verizon Trade In program or choosing paperless billing, will generate more points every month.
The program delivers discounts and savings of up to 40 percent on brand-name merchandise from more than 200 well-known brands, offers on local shopping and dining redeemable directly from a customer’s wireless device, and travel including discounts at more than 26,000 hotels.
All merchandise includes a lowest-price guarantee and shipping is free. Discounts on Verizon-specific products along with gift cards for Verizon merchandise and opportunities to win NFL game tickets will also be available as part of the Smart Rewards program. And points can be used for even greater discounts through daily deals, as well as auctions and sweepstakes.

Incidentally, The other major U.S. carriers — AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile — all have clauses in their privacy policies reserving the right to collect personal information, including location data, for advertising purposes.
