FOX10 News Fugitive Files suspect Melchor Salto has family living in the Foley area.
Orange Beach Police and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office say he’s been on the run for 5 years, accused of a brutal sex crime. Now, it’s your chance to get him off the streets.
Salto faces kidnapping, sodomy, rape and assault charges. Investigators say in June, 2009, he forced a woman into a car at a laundromat and attacked her.
Orange Beach investigator Richard Springsteen said, “He then drove her out to the Josephine area, which is in the Orange Beach Police jurisdiction where he forcibly raped and assaulted the victim”.
He later left the victim at a gas station at the corner of Baldwin County Road 83 and 20 in the Mifflin community. The 2000 model white Dodge Neon, seen in this picture was found abandoned in Loxley a few days after the crime.
“He did all this while his wife was present there with him. We believe he may be known in the Hispanic community,” said Springsteen. Bob Grip asked him, “What kind of message would you have for the Hispanic community that would convince them that it would be a good idea to turn him in?” Springsteen replied, “This individual is dangerous, violent, and that he could do this again and he really needs to be brought to justice”.
Police say Salto’s wife was not a participant in the crime and was actually assaulted at the time. Salto is now 25 years old, 5-10 to 6 feet tall and weighs between 175 to 200 pounds. He also has a tattoo on his right forearm. If you know where to find him, call the Orange Beach Police Department.
