SILVERHILL, Ala. (WALA) – A $123,000 bond is keeping rape suspect Claude Daily behind bars for now. Silverhill police said he is responsible for the rape of a 13-year-old Silverhill girl.
“We’ve been after Mr. Daily for over a week and he was able to allude police on several different occasions,” Silverhill Chief Kim Wasdin said.
One of the charges Daily was hit with was conspiracy, which for him carries a $20,000 bond amount. Police said Daily knew the victim and that this wasn’t a random attack.
“We believe our evidence is going to show that Mr. Daily formulated a plan to victimize this young child,” Wasdin said.
According to police, Daily used to live in Silverhill, but moved to Fairhope once he discovered police were investigating the alleged crime.
“As soon as Mr. Daily found out that the crime had been reported and that we were actively looking for him, within three days of the offense, he moved,” Wasdin said.
Daily turned himself into the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. He was on parole for a marijuana possession charge when he turned himself in.
Police tell Fox10 News this is an ongoing investigation and that more arrests could be coming soon.
“We are working on the possibility of prosecuting two additional individuals, both of which would be juveniles,” Wasdin said.
According to the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office, if Daily makes bond, he will be placed under house arrest, be required to wear a GPS ankle monitor and have no contact with the alleged victim.
BCDA adds that Daily has until August 15 to decide if he wants a preliminary hearing before the case is bound over to a grand jury.
