With the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo barely a week from today, youngsters were able to compete in the annual Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament Saturday on Dauphin Island.
This is the 56th year for this event, held the Saturday before the adults rise before dawn to compete in one of the most popular fishing events in the United States.
Organizers say today’s event was open to young fishermen 15 years-old or younger.
Rodeo officials say the Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament typically attracts more than 1500 youngsters.
Many of the children had their first chance at participating in one of the Gulf Coast’s favorite sports through corporate sponsorships and donations.
This year’s Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo starts next Friday and continues throughout the weekend.
