UPDATE: Gulf Shores Fire Rescue said on their Facebook page this afternoon that they have advanced to the to the finals of a contest through which they could win $10,000.
The post read “It’s OFFICIAL GSFR has advanced to Finals of Safe and Sound contest!” and thanks to support from the community, members of the Gulf Shores Fire Rescue Department will travel to New York to compete for a $10,000 prize.
By the end of voting on Friday, July 11, the Gulf Shores Fire Rescue Department had made the hopes of winning of the Southern Manatee Fire rescue Dept. go up in smoke (forgive the pun.) The GSFR will now appear on Good Morning America and have a shot at winning $10,000 for the city’s fire department.

To vote, and increase the chances of the Fire department of winning, visit the GMA website and vote in the poll, which closes at midnight on Friday, July 11.
In order to enter the contest the fire department submitted a video of themselves performing to the Capital Cities song “Safe and Sound”.
Earlier, the GSFRD made this post on Facebook in the hopes of lighting a fire under potential voters who haven’t chimed in yet.
