MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – Part of a major thoroughfare in the western part of Mobile County has closed.
It’s expected to stay that way for about two months.
Mobile County is replacing the bridge on Grand Bay-Wilmer Road over Jackson Creek.
That’s between Old Pascagoula Road and Dawes Road.
The county advertised the closure, and put up a sign earlier this week saying the bridge would close Wednesday morning.
Brian Keller owns a “pick your own” vegetable farm on Grand Bay-Wilmer Road.
Keller said he’s been working with the county to ease the effects of the closure, and hopes the work wont hurt his business.
Customers can still get in to Oak Hill Tree Farm on Dawes Road, but they have a long detour.
Keller said, “You’ve got to go, at least, to March Road, or you can go over to Mississippi. But, its pretty good. It’s a good twenty miles out of the way. It’s going to take some getting used to, for sure.”
The bridge upgrade will cost almost $338,000, and work should last through mid-September.
