PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) – Prichard police are investigating an apparent homicide.
Relatives tell Fox Ten News the victim was a new mother.
Police tape and cars blocked off a home in the 4500 block of Jarrett Road in the Eight Mile community Sunday afternoon.
Beverly Martin said she had not met the young woman who moved in about two months ago. Sunday, she learned her new neighbor was dead.
“The young lady told me some lady had gotten killed, shot in the head, I don’t know,” Martin said.
Sandra Garner was in the kitchen when her husband got the call.
“I just heard him say that he would go down and check on the situation, and all I heard was, I’m on my way, I’m on my way,” Garner said.
Garner received a text from the victim this morning.
“And I was at church, she said I miss you. I text back and said I miss you too, not knowing that would be my last time,” she said.
According to Garner the 21-year-old victim had a two month old daughter. The relative said the baby was not at the home at the time of the shooting.
The family is still waiting to find out exactly what happened and why.
“She was real outgoing,,a sweet person,, wouldn’t hurt you,” Garner said.
Prichard police have not yet released any details about the investigation.
