QUINCY, Ill. (AP) – A company that employs more than 150 people in western Illinois has decided to close its factory in Quincy.
The Quincy Herald-Whig reports (http://bit.ly/1z5xcaI ) Quincy Compressor officials said they would close the location in July 2015. They made the announcement Tuesday at a meeting with workers.
State and local officials previously said they wanted to develop an incentive package to convince the company to remain open. But Quincy Compressor president John Thompson says “combined union and civic incentives fell short.”
The company will create an undetermined number of positions at its facility in Bay Minette, Ala. It employs about 550 people nationwide.
Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore says the city will do what it can to make sure those who lose their jobs “find gainful employment in the city of Quincy.”
