A July 4th tradition along the eastern shore is the Fairhope fireworks show and celebration. This year’s show will start with entertainment by the Baldwin Pops leading right into the fireworks show.
Preparations began Wednesday, July 2, 2014. City crews blocked off the public parkland along the bayfront to parking…areas that officials say will see over 5,000 spectators Friday night. This year there have been some changes to where spectators can park.
“We will not allow any parking around the beach circle, the pier circle this year simply to allow more room for spectators to use. There’ll be some limited handicapped parking and there’s always parking on the north beach,” said Sherry Sullivan with the city of Fairhope.
Work on the new beach at Pier Street is wrapping up which will offer another great area to watch from. The fireworks show itself will last about 22 minutes. Because the show is set up by the Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department, the city is able to put more money towards its fireworks.
“We also have activities down here at the pier. We have food vendors, we have the Baldwin Pops concert so I think it’s something everyone looks forward to every year,” Sullivan said.
Spectators are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs, but officials ask that you leave ice chests at home and the event is alcohol free. There will be plenty of food vendors serving throughout the night.
There will be limited parking along the bayfront this year so city officials are encouraging everyone to arrive early. You can park in the downtown area and then walk from there to the bayfront.
