MFR responds to two alarm fire overnight

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Mobile firefighters had their hands full with an overnight two alarm fire.

The call went out Monday, June 30 around 11 p.m. Mobile Fire-Rescue responded to the Colonial Trailways bus station on Halls Mill Road.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke pouring from the building. No one was in the building, but one firefighter was taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion.

“It’s traumatic on the firefighters. Having that kind of heat, you’re already inside the gear – it’s going to increase your body temperature by twenty degrees easily. With the heat index in the 90s, it takes a big toll on the fire fighters,” said Chief Randy Smith.

Officials said one bus was severely damaged, and another was removed from the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
