MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced Tuesday, July 1 the appointment of U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Richard Landolt (retired) to as Executive Director of Public Safety.
Landolt served as Director of Operations and Cyber at U.S. Africa Command and as commander of the Amphibious Force for the 7th Fleet (Task Force 76) in Okinawa, Japan. He also served in the Pentagon as Director, International Engagement of the Navy staff.
In his newly created position, Landolt will oversee the Mobile Police and Fire-Rescue Departments and the Safety and Performance department.
The mayor said Landolt’s salary will be $110,000 which is comparable with other executive director positions in Mobile.
The council is expected to approve the appointment during the regular 10:30am meeting.
Council member Fred Richardson said he would support the appointment, however he was concerned that council members had not been informed of the appointment until just shortly before Tuesday’s pre-council meeting.
