Ala. broadcaster applauds Supreme Court decision

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A Catholic broadcasting network that operates in Alabama said in a statement that it’s pleased with Monday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding contraceptives and health care.

The court ruled Monday that some corporations can hold religious objections that allow them to opt out of the new health law requirement that they cover contraceptives for women.

Eternal Word Television Network, which has studios in a Birmingham suburb, said it remains unclear whether Monday’s decision addresses objections the network has raised regarding nonprofit faith-based organizations.

EWTN said it is consulting with legal advisers to determine how Monday’s decision applies to the network and its pending court case.

EWTN has asked for a U.S. Supreme Court injunction as it pursues a lawsuit against requiring employers to include contraception in their health care coverage.
