PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) – “I want y’all to forgive her. In the name of Jesus, that’s all I ask, and that’s all I have to say,” said a woman who only identified herself as Mrs. Steele, the mother of a woman who allegedly stabbed a man to death Thursday night, June 26, in Prichard.
That wasn’t all Mrs. Steele had to say to the man her daughter allegedly killed.
“I’d just like to give out my deepest sympathy, and my deepest condolences to the family of my son in law,” said Mrs. Steele.
Prichard Police say 35-year-old Tamekia Steele stabbed her husband last night during a drunken argument at a Bar-B-Que in the neighborhood of Gulf Village Homes.
“What ends up happening is he ends up being stabbed in the neck, right directly in the neck from what we understand it was some sort of butcher knife,” said Prichard Police Chief Jerry Speziale.
Steele allegedly tried to flee the scene after stabbing her husband, but was apprehended by Prichard Police minutes later.
“A sharp patrol officer pulls in, identifies (the suspect), we get information she’s at 203 Fairport, we go there, immediately she has blood all over her, we place her in to custody,” explained Chief Speziale.
Steele was in court Friday morning for a bond hearing. Her bond has been set at $25,000. She is charged with one count of manslaughter.
Police said the couple had a five-year-old child. A grandmother is now taking care of the child, according to Chief Speziale.
