MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A car ran over a fire hose while Mobile Fire-Rescue was battling a blaze Friday night, June 20.
The hose burst, spraying water all over the street.
“When you see hose lines across the road that’s or lifeline. That’s what keeps us from getting hurt and killed on these things so if you see a hose across the road like that don’t run over it please because these kinds of things happen,” said Brian Gilliland with Mobile Fire-Rescue.
The fire was at the Cash Saver Cost Plus, a branch of Greer’s Market, at the corner of Springhill Avenue and North Julia Street.
Mobile Police said drivers can be issued a ticket for driving over a fire hose. They said the fine is $167 plus any property damage to the hose, which costs $500.
Gilliland added it didn’t affect the operation and crews were able to extinguish the fire, but not without some injuries.
He said two firefighters were taken to the hospital due to a minor injury and heat exhaustion.
