FPD: Shoplifter leads high-speed chase through neighborhood

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WALA) – Officers with the Fairhope Police Department told FOX10 News they chased a woman through the Quail Creek Neighborhood after she allegedly stole $300 worth of merchandise from the Walmart on Highway 181.

Police say 23-year-old Braquette Blair of Loxley is that woman responsible.

According to officials, the chase started at the Walmart, went south down Highway 181, then police say Blair ducked into the Quail Creek neighborhood, where police say she was driving recklessly to try to get away.

“She drove extremely recklessly through the neighborhood, running stop signs, even at one point driving through the yards of persons trying to get away from police,” said Sgt. Craig Sawyer with Fairhope Police.

Blair was ultimately blocked in at Lake Ridge Drive, according to witnesses.

An 8-year-old was playing outside when the woman and police sped by her. She told FOX10 what she saw.

“We saw this lady that was speeding down our road, and we saw the police chasing after her, and she went around the block, and then, they pulled her over, over there, and then they got out their gun and they said, ‘unlock your doors and get out of your car’, and so she got out of her car and unlocked her doors, and so they arrested her,” said 8-year-old Kathryn Cook.

Police tell FOX10 Blair is charged with Theft of Property, Reckless Endangerment, and Attempting to Elude Officers.

No one was injured in the incident.
