Human trafficking art exhibit

Eye Heart World, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting the atrocities of human trafficking through the sale of a fashion product line presents “A Story Told: An Eye Heart World Awareness Experience and Silent Auction”. The gala will be a black tie event with a requested minimum donation of $35 per guest. Light Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served. The event is Thursday, June 19 at 7:00pm at Space 301.

“A Story Told” gala will be a bold representation of what Eye Heart World stands for, as they work to bring awareness to human trafficking through the use of art and creativity. Featuring local artist and fashion designer, Destani Hoffman, the Gala guests can expect an immersion event that takes real life victim experiences and portrays them as one cohesive fictional story of a young female sex trafficking victim. Each guest will gain a unique, personal connection as the collection of twelve charcoal pieces engages them in her journey from innocence to tragedy to restoration. The featured collection of masterpieces will be available for purchase via silent auction throughout the evening. Funds raised from purchases during the course of the evening will go to further the efforts to fight human trafficking along the Gulf Coast and beyond.

To supplement the art pieces, there will also be several staged scenes depicting real life instances of human trafficking, each with supporting infographics to provide background on the realities of the issue, as well as special guest speakers including Eye Heart World founders Brian and Season Russo.
The A Story Told exhibit will serve to educate its guests about the issue of human trafficking locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. In order to fight human trafficking, it’s necessary to educate our police force, community leaders, teachers, parents and children about how these perpetrators target and lure their victims. This event will also serve as an opportunity for our local educators and public service leaders to gain access to preventative resources and curricula.

Eye Heart World is a local non-profit organization founded by local residents Brian and Season Russo that have designed and produced a line of hand bags complemented by other fashionable pieces, the sales of which go to benefit the fight to increase awareness and stop human trafficking. Over 2 million human beings are being trafficked in the United States today. Eye Heart World is working to not only educate and raise funds, but they have created a system that will arm and equip consumers to be “Carry the Cause” by incorporating direct assignment of purchases to immediate impacts for the cause by the purchaser. Believing that making a big difference as a community starts with one individual making an impact, the “Cause Carriers” initiative is the backbone of Eye Heart World’s product purchasing system.
