Family: Brothers recovering after stabbing at Fairhope nightclub

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WALA) -Two brothers are now at home recovering from wounds they received when police said they were stabbed at a Fairhope nightclub early Sunday morning, June 15, 2014. Investigators said it happened after a fight broke out in the Double Deuce Saloon and now police are trying to track down a suspect.

Fairhope Police say 22 year old Maurice Rupert and 29 year old Ray Ray Kyles were stabbed during the brawl at the nightclub on Highway 98 around 1:30 Sunday morning. Police say a single suspect stabbed Kyles in the back twice and cut rupert’s throat.

“They each sustained multiple stab wounds,” Sgt. Craig Sawyer with the Fairhope Police Department said on Monday. “We believe the stab wounds were sustained inside the nightclub. The wounds were described as serious, but not immediately life threatening.”

“It’s a phone call that no parent really want to receive,” said the victims’ mother who said the call terrified her. “The first thing that went through my mind was, ‘Oh Lord, I’m fixing to bury a child,’ but not only one child. I had two children there.”

Both victims were driven to Thomas Hospital in Fairhope by private vehicle, but were then taken to University of South Alabama Medical Center in Mobile for treatment.

After interviewing witnesses at the nightclub, police say they have developed a suspect.

From information gathered by talking to witnesses inside the club Saturday night, police believe that the victims and the suspect knew one another.

“I’m very confident that we should have an arrest in the days that follow this. Based on the witness cooperation, I think our officers will get it put to rest,” Sawyer said.

Police aren’t releasing the name of the suspect until a warrant has been sworn out on him or an arrest is made. Investigators are asking for anyone who was witness to the assault at the Double Deuce Saloon Sunday morning to call the Fairhope Police Department.
