Family members of Caleb Thomas told FOX10 News, the boy is slowly pulling out of coma but still very confused. According to family, he is opening his eyes more and more and is able to recognize people and say their names.
They say Caleb Thomas is currently off all pain medication, but he is experiencing headaches. Doctors are hoping to move Caleb from ICU to a regular room as early as tomorrow.
Family say, although Thomas is recovering, he wanted to tell everyone thank you for their support.
The incident happened on Wednesday, June 11 when Investigators with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said 13-year-old Caleb Thomas was listed in critical condition Thursday, June 12, after he was accidentally shot in the head with a air-powered BB rifle.
BCSO investigators said Caleb’s 11-year-old younger brother is the person who accidentally shot him, while under parental supervision at their home in Foley.
Caleb’s mother, Keisha Weeks, told FOX10 a pellet ricocheted when the boys were shooting at birds and hit Caleb in the eye and went through his brain.
Caleb was then taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where he remained in critical condition, according to officials.
