Biloxi Police say they arrested a man after they received reports of a suspect pick pocketing women carrying large purses at the IP Casino
According to reports, one incident occurred on March 29 where a wallet containing over $1,000 was stolen from within a purse. A similar incident occurred on May 24 where a wallet containing over $1,000 was also stolen from a purse.
Both incidents occurred while on the elevator and each of these thefts were captured on video surveillance. Police say a man they identified as Richard Curtis Childs was observed as leaving the scene in a black Dodge Charger after stealing the wallets.
Further investigation revealed Childs attempting to steal wallets from inside purses of other guests while on the elevator on other dates and times that were unsuccessful, police say. Childs was observed on video leaving the casino in the same car each time which was identified by tag.
On June 13 around 12 a.m., security reported seeing Childs as enter the casino and loiter on the elevator in an ongoing attempt to pick the wallets from purses. The black Dodge Charger was located in the parking garage by tag and the Biloxi Police Department responded. Shortly after police arrival, Childs exited the elevator and was arrested without as he approached the vehicle.
Childs, 52, is charged with two counts of grand larceny. His bond was at $50,000 per count for a total $100,000.
