Orange Beach officials said a man drowned around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, while swimming with two of his friends.
According to officials, the victim became distressed while swimming with two friends just east of the pass/jetties. Although his friends tried to assist him, they were unable to save him. Officials said the victim was not a skilled swimmer.
A firefighter placed in a helicopter found the victim floating approximately 100 yards out and 300 yards down from where he was last seen. Officials said attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.
The victim has not been identified, but we’re told he was in his 20s from Chilton County, near Montgomery.
Red flags were flying, indicating dangerous surf and rip currents.
