The Florian family is mourning the loss of two of their own after David and Greg Florian drowned in The Blackwater River in Santa Rosa County according to Tim Florian, one of the bothers who was there.

Tim said he was hanging out with David, Greg and a friend on a sandbar near Deaton Bridge when David and Greg were swept away by the strong current and sucked under. Tim said the friend tried to save the brothers but couldn’t get to them in time.

David and Greg come from a devout Catholic family in Pensacola. The two graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School and attended college in Mobile.

David, 26, graduated from Spring Hill College and was in the Dominican Third Order with the Catholic Church.

Greg, 21, who was the youngest of ten, attended The University of South Alabama and could be seen at USA sporting events dressed up as Napoleon Dynamite. Greg attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was involved with the Catholic Student Association. He later transferred to Auburn and was engaged.

The funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Pensacola.
