Mobile County Animal Shelter officials hope families will take advantage of the “Free Pet Adoption Day” being held this weekend at the Pinebrook Shopping Center on Airport Boulevard near McGregor Avenue.
From May 31 to June 1, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., shelter workers say a large selection of kittens, cats, puppies and dogs will be available for adoption for those who qualify.
According to the press release this free pet adoption event is happening in more than 200 shelters and animal rescue agencies in 14 communities in the United States.
The event is part of the fifth annual Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days. According to shelter officials, Maddies’ fund has set aside $10 million to provide shelters and rescue groups with an adoption “stipend” for an animal adopted during this event.
County officials say the stipends range from $500 to $2000.
Shelter officials say the event is named after a dog named Maddie, who was adopted by a California family who wanted to make sure every homeless dog and cat can have a loving home.
