Body of missing Panhandle swimmer found

NAVARRE BEACH, Fla. (AP/WALA) – The search for a missing 19-year-old swimmer ended Thursday, May 29 when his body was found in the surf line, in the water, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim has been identified by the SRCSO as Nathan Hughey of Louisiana.

Authorities say the man and his sister were swimming when they got into trouble in heavy surf on Wednesday afternoon. The woman made it safely to shore.

The Navarre Beach Fire Department, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission crews and the U.S. Coast Guard searched unit thunderstorms and darkness forced them to stop for the night. The search resumed Thursday morning.

Santa Rosa Sheriff’s spokesman Rich Aloy told the Pensacola News Journal surf conditions were dangerous on Wednesday afternoon.
