Memorial Day events across the Gulf Coast

Memorial Day observances are being held all along the Gulf Coast.

Monday morning, people will gather at Battleship Memorial Park on the Causeway for a special flag lowering ceremony.

The brief flag lowering will take place at the Vietnam Veterans of America Memorial in Battleship Park at 6 a.m. Fox Ten News Reporter Steve Alexander is covering the Battleship ceremonies and will have a report on Fox Ten News at 4 pm.

The day will be filled with memorial events. A “March to the Sea” will take place in Foley.  Starting at 8 a.m., the 1165th Military Police Company will march from the Foley Armory to the beach, in full military gear and rucksacks. The 1165th will place a bouquet of flowers in the surf to honor those we have lost.

Then at 8:30 a.m. a flag ceremony will be held at Mobile’s National Cemetery on Virginia Street. A similar ceremony will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery on Naval Air Station in Florida.

Prichard will be holding a Memorial Motorcade. It will begin at 9 a.m. at the Greer’s shopping center at the intersection of Interstate 65 and highway 45.

Also at 9 a.m. Satsuma is holding a Memorial Day ceremony at Satsuma City Hall.

In Semmes there will be a dedication ceremony at 1 p.m. at Honor Park on Wulff Road.

The day will conclude with the Baldwin Pop’s concert at 6:30 PM on the bluff overlooking the pier in Fairhope. There will also be a wreath placed at the “Tears of Sorrow – Tears of Joy” Memorial.
