In a news release issued by the Alabama Department of Transportation, state officials say one lane of the north bound side of Interstate 65 of the General W.K. Wilson, Jr. Bridge (commonly known as the Dolly Parton bridge by locals) will open at 8:00 a.m. today.
Kathryn Hamlett, of ALDOT in the Southwest Region, said in a press release this morning, the speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph with increased law enforcement patrols to ensure the safety of drivers.
Thursday afternoon, two 18-wheelers collided in a fiery crash on the bridge spanning the Middle River in the Mobile River Delta system forcing the shutdown of the northbound lanes as firefighters and ALDOT crews assessed the safety of the northbound bridge.
The crash forced detours during the busy Memorial Day Holiday weekend causing massive traffic delays Thursday and Friday.
FOX10News will update traffic conditions throughout the day and will have more on the traffic delays and bridge inspection on FOX10News at 9:00 p.m..
